In the past, Hogan and Hartson LLP utilized DLT or LTO Tape backups via Veritas. This old method created challenges. The time it took to do backups and restores often exceeded the window of time available, the tapes, off site storage, and pick up were not cost effective and technical problem with hung drives required servers to be rebooted. There was also a heavy reliance on man power within the various offices to swap the tapes necessary for correct backups.
Michael Lucas, Information Technology Director of Hogan and Hartson LLP, set his mind on disk to disk off-site data backup and restores with backup task and schedule administration from anywhere. He looked at several data backup and restore providers, including DS3 DataVaulting. Lucas was impressed with DS3 DataVaulting because of the “concept, presentation, favorable technical expertise and willingness to work on customized solutions.”
In response to his experience, Lucas states, “a recent disaster recovery effort to restore vault was a success [and the] administration and scheduling much easier. The vendor relationship is strong; DS3 DataVaulting has been very reactive to our needs.” In the end, Lucas says that switching to DS3 DataVaulting has made it “much easier for [Hogan & Hartson LLP] to perform, manage and monitor backups in all locations.”
